We are officially on the road with SWASS Tours Inc. Left Belize on Saturday and had a very smooth crossing. Water very flat and very nice. Left to go up river from Livingston by a smaller boat. The dark clouds that I asked the tour director about soon revealed themselves in a warm downpour. We took the usual evasive technique of crawling under an oilskin but were soon quite wet. That saves on laundry later though. Arrived in Rio Doulce to fin that the transport to the hotel was by another boat, this one without a canopy. The skies opened and a cold rain descended on us. Evasive tactics this time was to drive faster and get the ride over. Our clothes were now in the rinse cycle. It was a lovely little hotel with a good restaurant and we spent a pleasant evening playing scrabble and gin rummy (I got thumped in both encounters)
Yesterday left early by bus to Guatemala City. A five our ride on a packed but air conditioned bus complete with music (love songs) and movies (actions flicks) en espanol. The osund system was so excellent that I was forces to abandon my audio book because of the voices in my head. Arrive mid afternoon in GC and left immediately for Antigua. It rained here too. The bed was wonderful and comfortable and after a good nights sleep I am ready to see the sights.
